FIFA World Cup 2026: Meta rolls out special football features across Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook
FIFA World Cup 2026 is underway, and Meta has rolled out a set of new football-based features across its apps. Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads and Messenger will all include special tools which will help fans stay connected with the tournament in real time.

The company has teamed up with broadcasters, teams, players, commentators and creators to bring more content to users during the event.

The new updates include live match scores, discussions and football communities where fans can share opinions and reactions. Meta is also introducing special experiences and AI-based tools that help users quickly find World Cup updates and other related content.

Threads will host Live Chats with commentators, players and creators such as Argentina and Manchester City player Sergio Agüero and England and Arsenal legend Ian Wright, where users can react and join the conversation before, during and after matches.

Fans will also get live score updates, team badges, football stickers, custom emoji reactions and curated media highlights from broadcasters. The app will also offer match reminders and key highlights so users don’t miss any action.

Instagram is getting upgraded to become a key hub for FIFA World Cup 2026 content. A new enhanced search feature will let users find the tournament more easily and open a dedicated page with real-time updates, top Reels, Stories and content from official broadcasters, national teams and fans.

Along with this, Instagram is also introducing an AI-powered Goal voice effect in DMs, which allows users to send fun audio messages that trigger surprise animations.

Facebook has introduced a Football Model that lets users double-tap the Facebook logo to unlock reactions, a special game and a custom app icon. The platform is also adding a Wear It AI feature that allows fans to virtually try team jerseys and share them as profile pictures, stories or posts.

WhatsApp has upgraded the football emoji to the official Trionda match ball, created in partnership with Adidas. A football-themed calling effect and filters will also be available during video calls.

They are also introducing special football sticker packs, along with a dedicated football directory that brings together teams, scores, highlights, and updates in one place.

The FIFA World Cup 2026, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, started on June 11. Argentina enter the tournament as the defending champions after winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but attention is on who will lift the trophy this time.

The competition began at the Mexico City Stadium and will conclude on July 19 at the New York-New Jersey Stadium in the United States.
