Prime Minister Narendra Modi met French President Emmanuel Macron in Nice on Sunday, as both leaders focused on strengthening cooperation in technology, innovation and emerging sectors.
Sharing a post on X, PM Modi said he was delighted to meet Macron again in Nice and thanked him for participating in Bharat Innovates, noting that the two countries are celebrating the Year of Innovation.
India positions itself as a global innovation partner
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi highlighted India’s changing position in the global technology ecosystem, saying the country is moving from being a technology adopter to a technology provider.
According to PTI, Modi said India’s young innovators are developing technologies that can address global challenges and described the country’s innovation ecosystem as a key part of its future growth.
The Prime Minister said India’s approach is focused on creating technology that serves people and supports sustainable development.
‘Innovation is in India’s DNA’, says Modi
During his address, Modi linked India’s current technology push with the country’s long history of contributions in areas such as mathematics, astronomy, medicine and other fields.
ANI reported that the Prime Minister described innovation as being deeply rooted in India’s history and said the country is building on that foundation through modern digital transformation.
He also highlighted India’s focus on artificial intelligence, saying its AI vision is centred around the idea of technology benefiting all sections of society.
Deep-tech startups take centre stage
Bharat Innovates 2026 aims to boost India’s deep-tech ecosystem across sectors such as semiconductors, space technology, advanced computing, biotechnology and healthcare.
The Prime Minister also highlighted his engagement with investors and venture capital leaders during the event. In a post on X, Modi said the discussions were “enriching and insightful” and focused on opportunities across innovation, technology, manufacturing and emerging sectors.
He added that India’s growth is driven by talent, scale, stability and reforms, making it an attractive destination for global investment.
PM Modi described the India-France relationship as a partnership based on shared goals, innovation and cooperation.
French President Emmanuel Macron praised India’s innovation ecosystem and said France supports the Make in India initiative across different sectors.
Macron also said both countries have opportunities to expand cooperation in areas including artificial intelligence, climate solutions and civil nuclear energy, including Small Modular Reactors.
Modi’s France visit to continue with G7 engagements
The Prime Minister’s visit includes further engagements in Evian and Paris, where he is scheduled to participate in wider diplomatic discussions, including meetings linked to the G7 summit.
The Bharat Innovates event is being seen as an important part of the India-France Year of Innovation, with both countries looking to strengthen cooperation in technology, research and emerging industries.
