When Apple introduced the Liquid Glass redesign last year, it also added a fun interactive easter egg to the Preview app on iPadOS. Now, it is bringing the same playful element to iOS 27.

iOS 27 gets an interactive loupe

When Apple introduced the Preview app to the Mac in 2001, its icon featured a couple of photos beneath a magnifying loupe.

Over the years, the icon went through several redesigns, eventually losing the photos and keeping only the loupe as part of last year’s Liquid Glass revamp.

Here’s Basic Apple Guy’s compilation of the several Preview icons from 2001 through 2025, as part of their fantastic macOS Icon History gallery from last year.

Last year, in addition to redesigning the app’s icon, Apple also brought the Preview app to iPadOS 26 and iOS 26. However, only the iPad version got a fun little easter egg where the loupe was interactive.

This year, Apple is bringing the interactive loupe to iOS, letting users slide it across the app’s main screen as the text and content beneath it distort and respond to the loupe’s movement.
