Rekise Marine raises $9.7 Mn seed round led by Accel and NKSquared

Marine robotics startup Rekise Marine has raised $9.7 million in a seed funding round co-led by Accel and NKSquared, with participation from Sameer Brij Verma and Sandeep Singhal,  Industrial47 and Singularity AMC, alongside the company's founders and several family offices.

The startup had previously secured $4.72 million from Singularity AMC and others.

The proceeds will be used to complete and conduct sea trials of Jalkapi, deepen its in-house autonomy software capabilities, and significantly expand its engineering team across robotics, AI/ML, embedded systems, platform systems integration, and naval architecture, Rekise said in a press release.

Co-founded in 2017 by Maitrai Maka and Shekhar, Rekise Marine is a marine robotics company building autonomous ships and submarines. The company develops its autonomy software in house and designs, builds, and integrates its vessels, working with India's leading shipyards.

Rekise's platforms, including Jalkapi, India's first extra large autonomous underwater vehicle developed under the Indian Navy's iDEX ADITI programme, serve naval, coast guard, and commercial maritime missions.

According to the Bengaluru based startup, its software platform powers vessels of every class, from small man portable vehicles to extra large submarines, enabling capabilities to be deployed across platforms with minimal reconfiguration. Rekise builds and integrates its vessels in house, working with premier shipyards such as Goa Shipyard Limited and GRSE Limited.

Rekise's portfolio, spanning both surface and subsurface platforms, includes Jaldoot, an autonomous surface vessel already delivered to customers; Swadheen, an autonomous survey vessel that has undergone fully autonomous open sea trials; and a man portable autonomous underwater vehicle currently undergoing trials.

Other startups operating in this space include Odisha based Coratia Technologies, Planys, Eyerov, and Sagar Defence.
