Xbox pushes Fable rollout to February 2027 amid packed holiday release calendar
Fans eager to return to the fictional world of Albion will have to wait a little longer. Microsoft has officially delayed the launch of Fable, one of the most anticipated Xbox-exclusive role-playing games, shifting its release from the previously announced Autumn 2026 window to February 2027.

The decision comes as Xbox prepares for an exceptionally busy release schedule in late 2026, with several major first-party titles expected to dominate the gaming landscape. By moving Fable to early 2027, Microsoft hopes to give the game the spotlight it deserves.

Sharing a post on X, the video gaming brand stated, “This year is packed with incredible games for XBOX players to enjoy, from Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 to Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Grand Theft Auto VI.”

They continued, “In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves.”

The company also confirmed that fans can expect a fresh look at Fable during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7. “We’re excited to be giving players a major new look at Fable, as well as our broader lineup, at XBOX Games Showcase on June 7,” they added.

Meanwhile, Fable acknowledged that the delay may disappoint fans, but assured them that more information about the game is on the way.

“We know this stings, but it won’t be much longer before you’re back in Albion making morally questionable decisions. We’ll be sharing some big Fable reveals @XBOX Showcase on June 7th, so be sure to tune in.”

Speaking on the Xbox podcast, the company's chief content officer, Matt Booty, said development of the game was progressing well and that the delay was not due to concerns about its quality.

“The team feels really good. We're excited about where the game is,” Booty said. “We want to make sure that game has a window all to its own, so we are going to move it from this fall to February.”

Originally announced in 2020, Fable marks the return of Microsoft's long-running fantasy RPG franchise and is being developed by Playground Games, the studio best known for the Forza Horizon series.
